First Treatment Visit
If you are a new patient to Olive Tree Dental, a new patient exam is carried out first to ensure you are dentally fit for the treatment. Decay, infections, or gum disease will need to be treated prior to cosmetic dental treatment, such as Icon Treatment.
A comprehensive assessment is then undertaken. Digital scans and X-rays are taken to obtain measurements of your teeth and assess how best to proceed. Photos can be taken using a camera or our intra-oral camera to ensure we capture those before and after images so we can monitor the progress of the treatment when complete and see actual results.

We will closely study your smile and the elements that make it unique to you so that we can gain valuable insight that will allow us to successfully plan your smile design. A quick test in surgery determines how responsive your teeth will be to Icon, a recommendation will then be made about how to manage any lesions. Your treatment will never be rushed, as we will always make sure you are happy before proceeding to the next stage of the process.
Treatment (second appointment: 60-90 minutes)
This minimally invasive technique uses infiltration to blend white spots with the rest of the tooth. First, a special gel is applied to open the pores of the teeth. Then, a small amount of tooth-colored resin is applied.
Finally, a light is used to harden the resin, restoring the tooth’s natural color. The best news is, this is all achieved without a dental drill! Depending on how deep the White Spot is and how deep it penetrates, more than one round of Icon may be recommended. In which case another visit will be required.
Aftercare
We recommend refraining from chewing vigorously for a couple of hours immediately after the treatment, after which you chew normally. Avoid teeth-staining food and drink to ensure the resins remain a healthy shade and avoid biting on foreign objects (ice and pencils can often lead to chips!).

White spots are common and can be caused by many factors including fluorosis, from high fluoride intake when the adult teeth are developing, and decalcification – the loss of minerals from the enamel. This is sometimes the result of fixed brace treatment if there has been a lapse in hygiene in the areas surrounding the brackets.
Many people mistake white spots or mottling for staining and think that uniform colour could be restored by whitening. However, the spots would remain lighter in colour than the rest of the tooth. To be rid of white spots forever takes Icon – a non-invasive treatment that targets the pores themselves.
ICON works by using a gel to remove any superficial porosities on the tooth. A resin is then used to infiltrate the teeth sealing up the porosities and preventing future discolorations. Icon works without drilling and injections and has no age limit, so it can be administered safely on children too.
Icon smooth surface is used to treat white spots in vestibular areas. The principle is: Air and water entrapments in the tooth have a lower refractive index than intact tooth structure. This leads to unesthetic discolorations. Icon balances out this difference and the appearance blends in with the healthy enamel.
