Children can be born with a combination of both a tongue tie and / or a lip tie causing restrictions in certain tongue movements.
This can cause a lot of strain on breastfeeding, resulting in the baby finding it difficult to get enough milk supply and can cause airway and digestive issues too. Later on, in some circumstances, as the baby gets older, it can lead to challenges with speech and language, too; all these can generally be resolved by a simple procedure called a Frenectomy.

Tongue / Lip Tie in New-borns
Signs to look out for that could mean your new-born needs Frenectomy treatment:
- New-borns Symptoms.
- Child hiccups or is choking / gagging when feeding.
- Brings up more milk than they hold down.
- The child can’t seem to hold onto the dummy / pacifier. It just slips off.
- Show evidence of sucking blisters around or on their lips.
- Snoring / heavy mouth breathing.
- Baby constantly seems hungry and never full.
If your newborn experiences 3-4 or more of these symptoms, it is worth seeing one of our Tongue / Lip Tie specialists to evaluate them and assess if they need treatment.
If tongue or lip tie is advised – the procedure will either be carried out on the same or the following day. After the procedure, you will be able to feed your baby (a private area can be arranged if that would make you feel more comfortable). We may recommend that only topical anaesthetic be used during frenectomy since it is a relatively painless procedure.
Mother’s symptoms (if opting for breast-feeding)
- Blistered or sore nipples.
- Creased or squashed nipples.
- Decreased milk supply.
- Nipple thrush.
- Baby only seems to want to feed from one particular side.

Why our parents love having their children undergo
a frenectomy treatment
The procedure in its entirety takes under 30 minutes and predominantly no stitches are required.
Parents often start noticing results within a week post treatment and are thankful that they went through with it.
Healing process is faster and generally without complications resulting in well healed healthy tissue with less change of relapse (reattachment).
Our electrical surgical technologies work with electrical impulses, so the procedure is discomfort-free and there is almost no bleeding involved, due to a sophisticated coagulation feature. Most babies and children have a relatively calm procedure.
We offer a full release, as we are confident with our professional dental team, their experience & the qualifications and the training they have had. As a result, we are also confident with the results we will be able to achieve.
