Your Patient Journey

Journey Icon

First Treatment Visit
Your first appointment is when we will diagnose the need for an extraction.

If you are a new patient to Olive Tree Dental a new patient exam is carried out first to ensure you are dentally fit for the treatment. A comprehensive assessment is then undertaken. X-rays and clinical photos are taken to ensure a bespoke treatment plan is created.

If this is an emergency appointment, we may deem it necessary and possible to perform the extraction right away. If this isn’t possible, it will be performed at a second appointment. Should you require a surgical extraction, this will also be at a second appointment with one of our experiences Oral Surgeons.

Second Treatment Visit
Your Dentist or Oral Surgeon will numb the area with local anaesthetic, and gently extract the tooth. If your procedure is surgical, your surgeon may need to make an incision around the gum to ease the tooth out of its socket. The area is thoroughly cleaned, and gauze is applied to help stop the bleeding. In some cases, dissolvable stiches may be required.

Aftercare
Avoid hot food/drinks whilst your tooth is still numb due to the risk of a burning sensation around the area. Warm salt water rinses are recommended to keep the area clean. Try to avoid any overexertion in the couple of days after the procedure, as you may disrupt the blood clot.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do I Need To Replace Extracted Teeth?

If you have had teeth that have been causing crowding in your mouth (such as wisdom teeth), these do not need to be replaced. However, teeth that are fundamental for functions like chewing should be replaced, in the interests of your quality of life and oral health. We will talk you through the options we offer for replacing gaps in your smile, so that you can go forward post-extraction with an optimistic mindset about your oral health, and your smile.

Can I Have a Denture And Extraction In The Same Visit On The Same Day?

Yes, providing this is pre-arranged and the Dentist has enough time allocated during the appointment. Effectively you will have the extraction then an immediate denture will be placed. The process includes; a mould of the teeth being taken, the prescription is then sent to the laboratory and the bespoke immediate denture will then be made to measure and placed in the gap where the extraction has taken place.

I’m Nervous – Can I Have Sedation?

We offer conscious (intravenous) sedation for patients who need a helping hand relaxing before their treatment. This type of sedation induces feelings of complete relaxation within a matter of seconds. Once under sedation, you will be conscious, with the capacity to communicate with your dentist during the procedure. It’s a highly successful technique for breaking down the anxiety barrier that can stop many nervous patients from going ahead with treatment.

Will It Hurt To Have a Tooth Extracted?

It’s completely normal to want to know the answer to this question. The good news is that as you are numbed with local anaesthetic prior to treatment, you shouldn’t feel anything during the procedure. Once the anaesthetic has worn off, you may feel a mild and dull ache, which can be easily managed with OTC painkillers.

I have been going to olive tree dental now, for about a year and a half. The service is always so friendly and they really help you make the best decision when it comes to your teeth. I have had Invisalign treatment with Patricia, which was exceptional. The regular hygienist appointments and general check ups are also very good, and the parking around the dentist is excellent. I would highly recommend going here.read more

From the first step through the door it felt far removed from the standard clinical feel of any dentist I had been to previously. Not only are the offices beautifully decorated and the staff welcoming and friendly but the resulting impression from my first appointment was one of confidence instead of fear. Dr Zyada was very thorough in her checks and took the time to go through each and every tooth to explain exactly what needed to be done and why. It makes the return appointment a lot less daunting, thank you. Would definitely recommend Olive Tree Dental.read more

The team at Olive Tree Dental are great! My dentist was very thorough and took the time to patiently explain her findings and what would be required for future visits. Like most people I don't enjoy going to the dentist, but the team made it as comfortable as possible. The rooms were really clean too!read more

I went to Olive Tree Dental Clinic few times for teeth cleaning, emergency dental work and consultations. The clinic was very clean and inviting, stuff was very friendly and dentist was very gentle and reassuring. I appreciated the fact that she was communicating with me during the procedures so I wasn’t wondering what’s going on or when it will finish. I’ve been to quite a few dental clinics previously but never felt as valued and welcomed, and never got such high quality dental service. Highly recommend it to anyone and especially to those who feel nervous and anxious when visiting dentist. I feel lucky to live nearby!read more
