You should be mindful of biting into hard and brittle foods (hard sweets, crunchy baguettes) directly on the composite bonded teeth. Even if they don’t chip, the composite could pick up micro-stress fractures, which over time, will weaken the bonding.
You should reduce the amount of teeth-staining food and drink such as red wines, teas and coffees, as the resins can pick up staining around the margins where it bonds to the teeth. Smoking can cause a lot of stubborn staining, so it is a good time to stop when considering composite bonding.
If the staining is caught early and is mild, the hygienist would be able to polish this off. If you’re a known clincher or grind your teeth (many of us do it without thinking), consider a soft guard to wear at night or at times in the day when you’re clenching most. We also recommend wearing a sports guard when partaking in contact sports.
