First Treatment Visit
If you are a new patient to Olive Tree Dental a new patient exam is carried out first to ensure you are dentally fit for dental bridge treatment. We carry out a comprehensive assessment of your mouth, and take X-rays and photographs of your teeth, whilst also examining the soft tissues such as your gums and tongue, as well the gland area.
Once the need for a bridge is ascertained, we kindly ask that you attend a follow-up crown preparation visit.
Second Treatment Visit
The tooth is prepared for the bridge. Once it has been numbed with local anaesthetic, the tooth or teeth adjacent to the gap are filed down to accommodate the crowns. An impression is taken and sent away to the dental laboratory, where your bridge will be custom-made for your smile. A temporary bridge is fitted whilst you wait for your permanent bridge to be designed.
Third Treatment Visit
The area is numbed with anesthetic. Once the temporary bridge is removed, and the area has been cleaned, the new bridge is placed over the top. Once you and your dentist are content with the fit, we can use a strong adhesive to cement it in place.
Aftercare
We recommend avoiding hot food and drink whilst your tooth is still numb, as you may experience a burning sensation within the tooth. If anything doesn’t feel quite right in the days after treatment, please let us know.
Bridges are comparable to dental crowns. The difference is, whilst crowns are individual restorations for your teeth, a bridge is a cojoined restoration that uses 2 or more crowns, and a false tooth in the middle, providing the replacement the gap in your smile needs.
