New Patient Exam
If you are a new patient to Olive Tree Dental a new patient exam is carried out first to ensure you are dentally fit for the treatment. Decay, infections, or gum disease will need to be treated prior to cosmetic dental treatment such as teeth whitening.

A comprehensive assessment is then undertaken. Digital scans are taken to obtain measurements of your teeth, which will be used to create the whitening trays.

Olive Tree Dental stands out as a practice that really takes the time to listen to its patients. We feel it’s really important to get to the heart of what you’re looking for from treatment such as a Smile Makeover.

We will closely study your smile and the elements that make it unique to you, so that we can gain valuable insight, that will allow us to successfully plan your smile design. Your treatment will never be rushed, as we will always make sure you are happy before proceeding to the next stage of the process.

First Treatment Visit
Once we have examined your teeth and gums to ensure you are dentally suitable for treatment (no signs of gum disease, infection, or decay present), we can proceed with smile makeover treatment; good dental health is a prerequisite of all cosmetic dental treatment at Olive Tree Dental. Any restorative work will need to be carried out prior to treatment.

You will be presented with a fully-costed treatment plan, and we will only proceed once you are completely satisfied with what is being proposed.

Further Treatment Visits
The number of visits will depend on the combination of treatments you are undergoing to reach your dream smile.

Aftercare
Your aftercare plan will depend on the specifics of your smile makeover treatment.

Sample Smile Makeover Treatment

This patient is looking to:

• Improve their periodontal (gum) health.
• Have a filling placed to address decay.
• Straighten their teeth with the latest clear aligners technology, Invisalign®.
• Whiten their teeth.

First Visit:

A new patient examination is performed.

After which a comprehensive consultation is carried out to assess the patient’s needs, and understand their expectations.

Second Visit:

Perio

Patient returns for their hygiene appointment to address their periodontal health.

This involves:

• A scale and polish of teeth and a cleaning of the gums using a combination of hand scaling equipment and EMS Airflow® is performed using the latest GBT (Guided Biofilm Therapy®).
• Assessing if there are pockets of build up around teeth. Once the teeth and gums have been cleaned, they are blasted with a fine powder that helps to remove any light staining. This clean will enable the dentist to have a clearer view of cavities meaning the filling will be easier to conduct.

Third Visit:

Filling

The patient returns for their filling with their dentist. (At times additional treatments, can be allocated for an extended appointment following the Perio treatment, we will always aim to minimise the number of visits to accommodate our patients needs).

• The patient will numbed via injection with a local anaesthetic.
• The dentist will then take away the decayed part of the tooth and fill the tooth with a white composite filling, which is matched to the shape and shade of the tooth.
• As this filling is on a back tooth and the decay is affecting the patient’s health, this filling will need to be done before any elective treatment. This will mean that the shade will match the natural shade of the teeth before the whitening.
• The patient will have the choice of leaving the filling at the back as is or replacing with a new shade after whitening.

Fourth & Subsequent Visits:

Invisalign®

Comprehensive Invisalign® Consultation (this can also be done alongside restorative treatment)

• The dentist will do an ortho assessment and an iTero™ scan of teeth, showing an approximation of how their teeth may move with treatment. The patient will have a CBCT X-ray (included in cost), clinical photos will be taken and be given a clear indication of treatment length and cost.
• Clinical Check: The patient will be shown a projection of the movements their teeth will go through once treatment commences. This projection is possible using the latest 3D technology iTero™ visualisation. If the patient is happy, they will sign consent and the clinical check will be approved.
• Attachments: At this appointment the aligners will be fitted. Attachments will be added to teeth to secure the aligners on, and the patient will be given a set of aligners to start treatment.
• Review: The dentist will review the progress after 2 weeks, ensuring patients compliance and that teeth are moving as expected.
• (Multiple visits) Tracking: Patient will then have a tracking appointment every 6 weeks. At this appointment, the dentist will scan teeth and ensure they are moving correctly against the treatment plan, addressing any issues if they arise. And the next set of aligners are given at each appointment.
• Completion of Invisalign® (retention)

Once patient has finished all aligners and treatment is complete the attachments will be removed and the retention part of the plan will be conducted. This may include a fixed retainer behind some teeth and will include a removable retainer that will need to be worn to ensure treatment is not reversed. Each patient is different.

• Retainer fit and Whitening

The patient will collect retainers, the dentist will ensure that they fit correctly and that the patient is capable of removing and fitting them.

Final Visit

Enlighten™ Whitening Treatment

Now the patient has reached the desired outcome of ortho they can choose which whitening they would like. In this example, the patient has chosen Enlighten™. The dentist will explain whitening procedure to patient and give them their at-home kit to start whitening treatment. This kit will help to brighten teeth before the in-chair treatment appointment. If the patient finds that they get the desirable effect from this treatment alone, we may not need to proceed with in-chair whitening. The retainers are also able to be used as the whitening trays.
