Your Patient Journey

Journey Icon

First Appointment
If you are a new patient to Olive Tree Dental, a new patient exam is carried out first to ensure you are dentally fit for the treatment. We carry out a comprehensive assessment of your mouth and take X-rays and photographs of your teeth whilst also examining the soft tissues, such as your gums and tongue, as well as the gland area.

We will perform a scale and polish of your teeth and gum line, assessing if there are pockets of buildup around your teeth, which may mean you require further hygiene or perio appointments. Once the teeth and gums have been cleaned, the Airflow® mixture of fine powder, water and compressed air is administered, which helps to remove any light staining.

We will advise on when to come in for a future appointment, depending on your risk factors for plaque and tartar build-up and gum disease.

The need for any additional dental treatment will be diagnosed if deemed necessary, and a treatment plan will be mutually agreed upon.

The Dental Hygienist will try to ensure you are seen at least every 12 – 16 Weeks to get you on the right track for excellent oral health & hygiene. As GBT is the result of years of clinical research by Switzerland’s EMS conducted in conjunction with leading experts. GBT is based on 8 treatment steps. GBT uses the proven AIRFLOW®, PERIOFLOW® and PIEZON® NO PAIN methods to remove biofilm in a minimally invasive manner.

GBT is a painless, fast, and safe method that helps you keep your teeth healthy. GBT also supports your overall health for a lifetime, so no more dreading routine Hygiene appointments.

After your Hygiene & Airflow® treatment, we will ask you to fill in a brief GBT Survey that takes a few minutes to complete. It allows us to better enhance your patient experience.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why Is It Important To Have Plaque And Tartar Removed By A Hygienist?

Each time you eat, biofilm is created within the mouth. Even with the most diligent of brushing and flossing routines, a degree of plaque will build-up on your teeth overtime. As this can’t be removed independently at home, it’s essential that you come in for hygienist appointment, so that it doesn’t cause inflammation of the gums, which is the first sign of gum disease.

How Is Airflow® Used? And Why Can It Be More Effective Than A Traditional Hygiene?

The GBT protocol dictates that the biofilm is disclosed (stained) in the patient’s mouth to make it clearly visible for both the patient and hygienist. The Airflow® is then used to remove the biofilm by spraying a jet of warm water and fine powder (to be more comfortable for the patient). It is a minimally invasive and non-abrasive method which means it can be used both on the tongue, cheeks and surrounding gum well.

Often patients who have had a standard hygiene say it’s not comparable to this GBT method as their teeth feel even smoother and the effects last for longer.

What is the 8-step GBT protocol?

Why is GBT a “Game Changer”?

Dental biofilm is the main etiologic factor for caries, periodontal and peri-implant infections. Periodontitis can increase the risk of systemic diseases, such as cardiovascular and respiratory disease, arthritis or diabetes.

Regular oral hygiene combined with professional measures keeps biofilm under control – for a better oral and systemic health. Axelsson and Lindhe established preventative dentistry in the 1970’s with studies and clinical protocols based on prophylaxis in “recall hours”.

GBT follows the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP) recommendations on Professional Mechanical Plaque Removal (PMPR) and Oral Hygiene Instructions (OHI) for Home Care of the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP).

“Periodontal Health — for a better life!”

Are there any health restrictions that could prevent me from having Hygiene Airflow Treatment?

It is very important that you are honest and advise us of your medical history so we know what we can and can’t use when it comes to your Hygiene appointment.

There are health conditions that mean we need to use different technology and have the EMS Airflow equipment set up slightly differently.

For example:

  • PERIOFLOW is contraindicated with patients with severe or unstable upper respiratory tract infections, and chronic bronchitis / asthma. In this instance, we use the PIEZON technology as an alternative.
  • PERIOFLOW is also contraindicated with pregnant and breastfeeding patients and patients with severe inflammation and or / osteonecrosis. In this instance, we use the AIRFLOW PLUS POWDER and PIEZON PS instruments as an alternative.
  • AIRFLOW is contraindicated with patients with severe or unstable upper respiratory tract infections, and chronic bronchitis / asthma.

In this instance, we use the PIEZON technology as an alternative.

If you let the hygienist know ahead of time, they will ensure the right technology & settings are set up for you.

I have been going to olive tree dental now, for about a year and a half. The service is always so friendly and they really help you make the best decision when it comes to your teeth. I have had Invisalign treatment with Patricia, which was exceptional. The regular hygienist appointments and general check ups are also very good, and the parking around the dentist is excellent. I would highly recommend going here.read more

From the first step through the door it felt far removed from the standard clinical feel of any dentist I had been to previously. Not only are the offices beautifully decorated and the staff welcoming and friendly but the resulting impression from my first appointment was one of confidence instead of fear. Dr Zyada was very thorough in her checks and took the time to go through each and every tooth to explain exactly what needed to be done and why. It makes the return appointment a lot less daunting, thank you. Would definitely recommend Olive Tree Dental.read more

I went to Olive Tree Dental Clinic few times for teeth cleaning, emergency dental work and consultations. The clinic was very clean and inviting, stuff was very friendly and dentist was very gentle and reassuring. I appreciated the fact that she was communicating with me during the procedures so I wasn’t wondering what’s going on or when it will finish. I’ve been to quite a few dental clinics previously but never felt as valued and welcomed, and never got such high quality dental service. Highly recommend it to anyone and especially to those who feel nervous and anxious when visiting dentist. I feel lucky to live nearby!read more
