First Treatment Visit
If you are a new patient to Olive Tree Dental a new patient exam is carried out first to ensure you are dentally fit for the treatment. We carry out a comprehensive assessment of your mouth, and take X-rays and photographs of your teeth, whilst also examining the soft tissues such as your gums and tongue, as well the gland area.
Once the need for a crown is ascertained, we kindly ask that you attend a follow-up crown preparation visit.
Second Treatment Visit
The tooth is prepared for the crown. The area is numbed with local anesthetic to ensure you’re completely comfortable throughout. The decay is removed, and the tooth is shaped, so as to receive the crown. A digital scan is taken to the laboratory, who can produce a made-to-measure crown. A temporary crown is placed whilst you wait for the final result.
Third Treatment Visit
Your tooth is numbed with anaesthetic and the temporary crown is removed. Once the area has been cleaned, the crown is placed over the top, and its fit is reviewed. Once you and your dentist are happy with the fit, the crown is cemented in place with a strong adhesive.
Aftercare
We recommend avoiding hot food and drink whilst your tooth is still numb, as you may experience a burning sensation within the tooth. If anything doesn’t feel quite right in the days after treatment, please let us know.

The materials we use to create your crown emulate real tooth enamel remarkably well. Once your crown is fitted, no-one (apart from your dentist!) will notice your crown isn’t real tooth enamel. It will be an almost identical match to your existing tooth shade. The materials we use include E-max® / Zirconia, Porcelain and Precious Metal.
Crowns are extremely hardwearing, as is the adhesive used to cement them in place. You will have the freedom to enjoy a variety of foods with varying textures with your new crown.
On average, dental crowns can last anything between 5 – 15 years. The life space of a crown will depend on your routine, oral hygiene practices and personal habits. The amount of can “wear and tear” the crown is exposed to can affect the longevity of a crown.
