Prior to any cosmetic treatment, the dentist will assess your teeth first to ensure that the teeth are strong and healthy for the treatment provided then design your smile with you.

Composite bonding on average lasts between 5-7 years. Over time, they can chip, pick up staining and need to be replaced however if you look after them, they’ll look after you!

As always, optimising your oral care and maintenance can help ensure your composite bonding lasts as long as possible and looks its best.

Here are a few tips for looking after your Composite Bonding:

• Practice good oral hygiene with brushing your teeth twice a day and floss at least once a day to remove plaque and prevent decay around the areas bonded on to.
• Visiting the hygienist will also help give you some professional support on how you can keep your teeth stain and plaque free too!
• Avoid biting down on hard foods such as ice, hard candy or popcorn kernels! Even if they don’t chip, they can weaken the bond over time.
• Being mindful of staining foods and drinks. Consider drinking through a straw and consuming less amounts of tea, coffees and red wine (some of the main culprits in diet staining!)
• Quit smoking- we all know how smoking causes some really nasty stubborn staining to the teeth!
• Consider getting a night guard. If you’re a known clencher or grind your teeth in your sleep, it’ll protect your bonding and your teeth
• Regular dental and hygienist visits to keep your teeth in top form!

Overall composite bonding is a very popular and effective way to enhance your natural teeth in a minimally invasive way which often requires one painless sitting and little-to-no preparation of your existing teeth.
